Great Idea for a Birthday Party

Posted on Nov 8, 2010

Rating: 10 (Highly Recommend)

We celebrated our daughter's birthday party at Midwest Gymnastics last weekend at the suggestion of a friend. We explored a lot of options for our daughter who was turning 8, and were growing frustrated because we had tried pretty much everything else and were running out of options ... until a friend, who had gone to a birthday party there not too long before recommended it. So we went ahead and booked a party for about 15 children. We were given a party room on the second floor and they provided all the paper products, as well as handled all venue preparation and clean-up. All we had to do was take care of the birthday cake (in our case it was cupcakes), order some pizza for delivery from Papa John's, and bring some food more suitable for the parents and other adults who attended the celebration. A trained coach cum party host was assigned who kept the kids moving, running, tumbling, jumping, climbing and entertained for a full hour. The children had so much fun! Everything was hassle- and stress-free. If you're thinking about where to hold your next party for your older child, consider them. You will be pleased with your decision.

The Finest Violin School in Town

Posted on Nov 9, 2010

Rating: 10 (Highly Recommend)

I think this school is the best-kept secret in Columbus. You can read all about the Suzuki method but my true experience of it is quite simple. As a parent, you get to be deeply involved in the music education of your child. You have to be present in all the lessons (private, group, and Kodaly), take notes, and practice with your child at home. The teachers are great musicians who live and breathe music, and incredibly gifted too. Adrien McGuire who teaches Kodaly is very talented, has such a lovely voice, and is quite innovative in teaching kids how to read and appreciate music. Erica Donahoe, who is my daughter’s teacher, is very patient in teaching and tells my daughter when to repeat one or two phrases to get a melody right. She focuses on one or two mistakes at a time, gets on with the lesson, and doesn’t dwell on mistakes. She gives the child constructive feedback, and as a parent, it is really up to me whether I follow through at home in working on those weaknesses. She is very positive and generous in her reinforcement. There are recitals that help the children grow in confidence and self-respect, as well as opportunities for children to play at various events (e.g., Popcorn Pops with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra). There are fun family events as well like annual trips to the farm in October for an exciting hayride, petting of animals, and stories by the bonfire.

The BEST Music Education in Columbus

Posted on Jan 27, 2011

Rating: 10 (Highly Recommend)

My daughter learned to play the violin from the age of 3 at this school. It is amazing what learning to play an instrument can do for a child. It instills confidence, focus, goal setting, pride, and the knowledge that hard work pays off. I have long been a fan of the Suzuki Method and this school has the best teachers around.

Great preschool in Dublin, Ohio!

Posted on Dec 2, 2010

Rating: 10 (Highly Recommend)

When I moved from Korea to Dublin, Ohio I wanted to find the right preschool environment for my two sons. I wanted to find a preschool that has a good foundation in academic excellence and will help my sons learn how to become well-mannered, sociable, learn English, learn how to read and master the alphabet and sounds, and have a good background in mathematics. I was very surprised and lucky to find what I was looking for in Meadows Academy. At Meadows, the small class size was very helpful for my sons because their teachers can easily work with them individually or one-by-one for a significant amount of time. The teachers have masters degrees in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education and the workbooks are individualized and provide a good academic foundation. Even prior to kindergarten, they were already doing kindergarten math and kindergarten reading. As a result of coming to Meadows Academy for a year and a half, my sons have mastered their alphabet, are speaking more and listening more. The Meadows Core Knowledge Program really helped them both be more prepared for Kindergarten. Meadows Academy is also very diverse. My sons have met children from Japan, Korea, India, Philippines, Russia, and Taiwan. With their little English, it was difficult for my children initially but they made lots of friends in Meadows and the international environment really helped my two boys grow socially and adjust to life in the U.S. They enjoy coming to Meadows and they are very happy here. I love the Meadows International Food Festival, talks by parents, and all the events are fun for my children and whole family!

the best educational opportunity for your preschooler

Posted on Jul 30, 2011

Rating: 10 (Highly Recommend)

I feel so blessed to have found Meadows Academy, where two of our three children have attended for the past year. I interviewed several different daycare centers, but was disappointed by the lack of education and structure that they were offering. With meadows, they offered exactly what we were looking for and have exceeded our expectations. The class room sizes are small, the children get lots of one-on-one instruction, they gear the learning materials to each child's level, and so much more. Our daugter had attended a more traditional preschool previously to attending meadows, and I never even realized how much she was missing, until we enrolled her into meadows. Instead of coming home with a stack of craft projects each day, she came home with worksheets of letters, numbers, and real educational material. We started in October, and by December, she went from not being able to write any more than a couple of letters, to being able to write the whole alphabet. The Director at Meadows is very patient and has done everything she could to work with my work schedule, so that I could drop them off and pick them up at a time that was convenient for me, before and after work. I am so very thankful that we found Meadows Academy, and would highly recommend them as the best possible learning opportunity for preschool age children anywhere in Columbus.

We made the right choice by choosing Meadows Academy

Posted on Dec 1, 2010

Rating: 9 (Highly Recommend)

Our search for school began when our daughter turned 2 .We were looking for a school and not a day care where she could be prepared for her future. And Meadows Academy fulfilled all our demands. Meadows Academy believes in imparting core knowledge to the students which is a set of model guidelines for children from 3to 5 yrs of age, to provide a solid, coherent foundation for later learning in kindergarten and beyond. It emphasizes both on academic excellence and early character formation. It offers certified teachers, small class size, pervasive use of technology, and a clean, safe, and secure learning environment. It is the goal of Meadows to provide personalized education by giving each student individual attention and help each child grow as a whole person in a creative, loving and nurturing atmosphere where learning is challenging and fun for our students. The director of the school Miss Susan is very cordial and knows about each and every student personally. You walk in and it's like you're the only one. Samaika's teacher makes sure that she is very reassured that she is in a loving environment and that's so important, because I don't feel odd leaving her . It's just the way she interacts and how she opens her heart to all the kids.Samaika talks about her all the time. In these 6mnths She has become more active, she's developed socially, her vocabulary has increased .You can see that change in her. People notice that too and I think it is coming to this school.
