About Social Raves
When we embarked on this project in the summer of 2009, we had a very simple goal. That goal was to enable and facilitate the sharing of information about great local brands and businesses so that each one of us finds - and discovers - what we're looking for in the easiest and most efficient manner possible.
Finding a lawyer, doctor, painter, plumber, electrician, auto mechanic, or that special restaurant or meal, can often be a painful, laborious, and time-consuming process, not to mention fraught at times with unnecessary stress and anxiety. Well, it doesn't have to be. There's got to be a better way.
If we're all connected and sharing information freely among ourselves about the products and brands we've bought as well as the service providers we've tried, then we can effectively "short-circuit" the search process and get to the information we need to make sounder and better decisions faster and cheaper. It's really not even search as we know it anymore because our network will simply give us the answers and we don't even have to ask the question.
In a highly connected world, there's really no reason why this could not happen. It should happen. Which is why we set out to build a platform where people can share their experiences about local services and businesses with their friends so that these friends can benefit from such experiences, and they in turn can do the same. If each one of us did this, in the end we'd have created for ourselves a personalized and highly reliable reference source on great local stuff.
So the next time your car needs repairs, for example, and you're wondering whether to take it to the dealer or if there might be a less costly alternative, you'll figure out what to do because someone in your circle might just know the right mechanic or shop and has a recommendation for you. And if they're in the market for a shoe, a physician, hair stylist, or landscaper, your own recommendations might just help them too.
Social Raves takes the "filtering" we do all the time through our friends to the web so whenever you're in the market for a product or service, you'll find businesses that have already been vetted, pre-screened, and recommended by the people you know and trust. You might still use any one of the major search engines for sure, but wouldn't you prefer to simply ask your friends and go from a billion search results to the two or three local businesses they recommend?
Clearly, local brands and businesses benefit from such referrals too but the greatest value to these enterprises is the ability to listen to "conversations" going on about them on the site and, where appropriate, engaging with customers so they can build and provide better products and services.
Everyone hopefully benefits and the world, as we'll see, can be a better place.
