It takes many years and patience to grow a bonsai tree. Many of them start out on a small pot to limit the size or defer the growth of the tree. Once it starts growing, the tree has to be pruned to the shape or structure you want it to take which takes a lot of time and practice. To keep the tree small, its roots have to be pruned from time to time and the bonsai transferred in a new pot or kept in the same pot depending on how much you want it to grow. I met John Brannon who grows the bonsai trees from The Nursery at Onion Creek last week. He knows his stuff and you can catch him and his magnificent bonsai trees at state fairs and shows, or call for an appointment.
